B.C. housing market finishes ’09 on high note, group reports

The B.C. housing market finished 2009 red hot, reaching sales heights not seen in 20 years, according to the British Columbia Real Estate Association.

The BCREA reported that 5,703 homes were sold in December 2009, an increase of 132 per cent over the same time the previous year.

This was an upturn from the start of the year, which began with homes selling at a 25-year low, according to BCREA chief economist Cameron Muir.

He added that momentum is expected to carry through the first quarter of 2010.
