B.C. Place dome deflation delayed

The deflation of the iconic white dome over B.C. Place has been delayed one day because of rain and wind concerns.

The dome will come down tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m., instead of this morning as originally planned.

The deflation, which is expected to take about half an hour, is one of the first steps in a $563-million renovation and installation of a new retractable roof.

On Thursday, B.C. Place general manager Howard Crosley said the dome could not be taken down during heavy rains because the four-hectare roof would act like a gigantic catch basin.

B.C. Place is expected to reopen before the end of next summer. A stadium near the PNE grounds in East Vancouver is being constructed as a temporary home for the B.C. Lions and Vancouver’s 2011 MLS expansion team.
