RCMP are investigating a trio of B.C. teens who lured men into costumed confrontations by posing as underage girls on an online dating site.
The stunts, clearly inspired by the infamous American TV series To Catch A Predator, were videotaped and uploaded to YouTube in a series called To Troll A Predator.
One video begins with the picture of a man who the boys claim arranged a meeting with what he thought was a minor on Plenty Of Fish, followed by screenshots of a sexually explicit conversation. The clip then cuts to one of the boys, dressed as Batman, approaching a man in a playground and accusing him of being there to meet an underage girl.
In a voice that apes Christian Bale’s portrayal of the Caped Crusader, the boy announces “This guy is a pedophile,” to people in the area as the man walks away. “He’s here for a 15-year-old girl.”
Another video begins by establishing the same setup with a different man, identified as Peter, and ends with him being confronted as he waits in his car.
“I work for the Chilliwack police department and we have caught you talking to a 15-year-old girl online,” Batman growls.
“My daughter,” the man responds with a slight chuckle. When Batman challenges him on it, the driver insists he has never heard of Plenty Of Fish before demanding to see a badge.
A posting on the To Troll A Predator Facebook page indicated the recent attention from police prompted the group to discontinue the series.
