Babson students drive through Wellesley campus waving Trump flag

The Wellesley College community, reeling after alumna Hillary Clinton lost the presidential election,was further disrupted on Wednesday when two Babson College students drove around the women’s campus waving a Donald Trump flag and antagonizing students.

Babson College President Kerry Healey said in a news releasethat the two men’s actions were “highly offensive, incredibly insensitive and simply not acceptable.”

Though the men have been identified on social media, neither school released their names. Their fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, was made aware of their actions and announced Thursday that it’s Boston chapter expelled both members immediately.

“The actions of these two men are abhorrent to our members, alumni and staff, and in no way represent SigEp’s values and aspirations for diversity and inclusion,” a spokesperson for the fraternity wrote in a statement.

“SigEp expects every member to model the way for others in their community. This type of abusive, misogynistic behavior has no place in our society, and we’re proud of our chapter swiftly removing these men from our organization.”

Wellesley students said on social media that the two Babson students sped around the women’s campus in a pickup truck while screaming and laughing. They then parked in front of a house for African-American students screaming “Make America great again.”

When a student asked them to leave, they spit in her direction, one Wellesley student wrote onFacebook.

Babson’s public safety department has been working with the Wellesley campus police to investigate the incident. Babson received more than 40 incident reports about this, Healey said.

Wellesley President Paula Johnson wrote in a letter to her students that “the mood on campus right now is one of anxiety and concern.”

“I hear you,” she wrote. “I share your concerns.”

Healey reached out directly to Johnson after learning about the events to apologize for the “pain and disruption this incident has caused.”
