Baby safe after reported abduction

What was believed to be the abduction of an infant in a random carjacking ended peacefully yesterday, after the one-year-old boy was found safely in the care of his father.

“We have actually located the child who we thought was missing and we are pleased to report he is in good condition without any injuries,” Const. Laurie Perks of York Region police told CP24.

About 90 minutes earlier, the boy’s mother reported her car stolen, with her one-year-old son strapped in a car seat inside.

CP24 said police on the scene said the parents had an argument in the parking lot outside a Costco store in Markham, north of Toronto.

The boy’s father left in the car, and the mother reported it stolen.

Perks said she was relieved the child was safe, and that they did not have an actual abduction on their hands.
