Baillie eyeing Cumberland South seat

Interim Leader Jamie Baillie is expected to announce his candidacy today for the Progressive Conservative nomination in Cumberland South.

Soon-to-be-retired Cumberland South MLA Murray Scott is holding a press conference with Baillie in Springhill at 12:30 p.m.

And while the Tories were staying mum on the content of Scott’s announcement when contacted by Metro, all signals point to the 57-year-old former police officer endorsing Baillie as the next Tory candidate in the riding.

Party spokesman Michael Kydd was quoted by the Amherst Daily as saying yesterday Baillie “will be a candidate for the party’s nomination” in the riding.

In August, Scott announced he will leave provincial politics by the end of the year to “allow someone else the opportunity to represent the residents” of Cumberland South.

Scott has held a seat in Cumberland South since he was first elected in 1998.
