Following the tradition of elected leaders putting local offerings on the line for major sporting contests, Gov. Charlie Baker and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence are wagering foodstuffs on the AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts.

“In the unlikely scenario that the Indianapolis Colts win,” Baker’s team announced the governor would ship Pence a “Super Bowl themed cake” from Montilio’s Baking Company in Brockton and a box of Boston cream pie cupcakes from the Koffee Kup Bakery in Springfield. Pence will send Baker shredded pork from Shoup’s Country Foods in Frankfort, Ind. if the Patriots win, and the losing team’s governor will donate local food to a food pantry of the winning governor’s choice.

Montilio’s created a relatively realistic pastry reproduction of the State House for Baker’s birthday and Baker won a bet against Maryland’s incoming governor Larry Hogan over a Pats-Ravens game. Hogan bet Maryland crabs and Baker wagered Koffee Kup cupcakes.

Baker plans to attend Sunday’s game at Gillette Stadium, as does Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, who does not plan to make a wager with Indianapolis Mayor Gregory Ballard.

A win Sunday would put the Patriot’s in the Super Bowl, where they would face either the Green Bay Packers, where Republican Scott Walker holds the governor’s office, or the Seattle Seahawks, where Democrat Jay Inslee is the governor. Hogan, Pence and Baker are all Republicans.

Baker made the Pats-Ravens bet as governor-elect and the nail-biter victory occurred last Saturday, two days after he was sworn-in. In a break from tradition, the wager was agreed to over Twitter, according to the governor’s office.
