A Citigroup banker who found dead with his throat slashed Tuesday has been identified as 42-year-old Shawn D. Miller.

Police initially responded to a 911 call from Miller’s doorman and discovered the victim unconscious in his bathtub with a laceration to his neck. EMS responders pronounced him dead on arrival.

Miller was a Syracuse University graduate and volunteered for several causes including civil rights, social action and poverty alleviation. Since November 2011, he served as the Managing Director and Global Head of Environmental and Social Management at Citigroup.

The banking institution has addressed the gruesome incident in a statement, writing, “We are deeply saddened by this news and our thoughts are with Shawn’s family at this time.”

Though a weapon was not discovered on the premises of Miller’s apartment, the Medical Examiner is determining the cause of death and the investigation is ongoing.
