Is Banksy’s latest piece to be a coded message to web developers?
Banksy’s new “Better Out Than In” installation is located in Coney Island and depicts a robot spray-painting a barcode.
The barcode itself is tricky to de-code because the lines are fairly imprecise.
The numbers below, however, may correspond to a color code used in making web sites:132741 is apparently a dark shade of cyan-blue.
The 25 is unclear, though it could refer to variations in the color — colors can be modified by 25 percent.
Notably, the 132741 shade of blue looks a lot like the shade of blue used by the NYPD. (And one of the ways hues can be modified is “transparency” — a little Banksy-esque jab at the NYPD, perhaps?)
What do you think? Is this a shout out to web developers? To the NYPD? Something else entirely? Let us know your theories on Facebook, Twitter, or in the comments below.
