Barber honoured twice at East Coast Music Awards

Former Halifax resident Jill Barber walked away with two wins at the
East Coast Music Awards last night at the Pepsi Centre in Corner Brook,
NL.

Barber, who spent six years living in the city before relocating
to Vancouver last fall, won for Jazz Recording of the Year and Female
Solo Recording of the Year for her 2008 album Chances. Barber, who was
nominated for four awards, joined Cape Breton’s Gordie Sampson and New
Brunswick’s Matt Anderson as double-award winners.

Sampson, who was nominated for five awards, captured Single of
the Year and Songwriter of the Year for We Are Young And So Is The
Night.

Anderson won for Male Solo Recording of the Year and Blues Recording of the Year.

The big winners of the evening were Newfoundland’s own Hey
Rosetta!, who walked away with three trophies, including Group
Recording of the Year and Recording of the Year.

Other Halifax victories included Joel Plaskett Emergency for
Entertainer of the Year, Christina Martin for Pop Recording of the Year
and David Myles for Folk Recording of the Year.
