Bathgate leads Whalers past Colts 4-1

BARRIE, Ont. – Andy Bathgate had a goal and two assists as the Plymouth Whalers took down the Barrie Colts 4-1 in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday night.

Tom Wilson, Rickard Rakell and Jamie Devane had the other goals for Plymouth (32-12-3), which extended its division lead over Sarnia to 16 points.

Devane’s first-period goal would hold up as the winner, tying him for second in the league with six on the season

Steven Beyers had the lone reply for Barrie (24-19-3).

Tanner Pearson picked up an assist in the loss. The undrafted forward currently sits three points behind Ottawa’s Tyler Toffoli in the OHL’s scoring race.

Despite a good number of power-play chances, there wasn’t much scoring with the man advantage.

Barrie went 1-for-9 on the power play while Plymouth finished the evening 0-for-5.

Scott Wedgewood picked up the win for the Whalers, turning aside 35 shots.

Barrie’s Mathias Niederberger made 40 saves in defeat.
