Not long after Boston was ranked as the drunkest city in the nation by The Daily Beast, officials announced binge drinking in the US was a “bigger problem than previously thought,” putting the Bay State amongst a dozen areas with the highest percentage of adult heavy drinkers, according to State House News.
The Center for Disease Control defines binge drinking “as consuming four or more drinks for women and five or more drinks for men over a short period of time.”
So, if you’re doing back-to-back shots of Jim Beam and chasing them by shot-gunning a Pabst with your friends, you probably fall somewhere on that list.
According to a report issued by the federal government yesterday, new data on binge boozing showed more than 38 million U.S. adults binge drink an average of four times a month and the most drinks they consume on average is eight.
If you’re a lady, that’s twice the “defined” limit.
The CDC said the most common of the binging bunch can be found in the Midwest, New England, the District of Columbia, Alaska, and Hawaii.
