BC’s bowl foe loses 3 players

USC won’t quite be fielding a full squad against Boston College in Saturday’s Emerald Bowl in San Francisco.

Trojans tight end Anthony McCoy, offensive tackle Tyron Smith and defensive tackle Averell Spicer have been ruled academically ineligible for the game, according to online reports yesterday.

The losses follow news that top running back Joe McKnight could miss the game. He was reportedly using a Land Rover belonging to his girlfriend’s employer, in violation of NCAA benefits rules.

USC and BC both finished 8-4 in the regular season this year. The 8 p.m. game will be televised on ESPN.

The Eagles, who have reached 11 straight bowls, are the only team to play in the Emerald Bowl twice.
