Become an oyster expert (and find $1 happy hours) with Pearl

Do you already know your oysters like wine? More importantly, where to find them (and on the cheap) in the city?

Pearl, a new app launched this week, will get you talking bivalve varietals as handily as the sommelier recommending which rose to go with them. Choose your oyster based on flavor profile, which includes helpful tasting notes like “creamy” and “briny,” then find a nearby restaurant serving them (and when their $1 happy hour is).

You can even make a reservation through the app, then rate your experience – including how much you, ahem, enjoyed the oyster – to guide other seafood lovers. Pearl is currently working with 150 oyster farmers and restaurants in NYC, Chicago and San Francisco.

The app is free, though it’s only available for iOS.
