Bed bug check leads cops to five guns

boston crime tape

A man and woman were arrested Saturday when a bed bug check in their South End apartment led to the recovery of five guns hidden under a mattress and under a bed.

Police said that when the couple was being taken out of the apartment, officers noted that on a mirror near the bed was the pest control inspection notice with the date and time of the check.

Just after 11 a.m. Saturday, police were called to 16 East Brookline St. When officers arrived they found Boston Housing Police had two people handcuffed.

Authorities said when pest control arrived at the city housing apartment to check for bed bugs a worker who lifted a mattress found two guns. Housing Authority police were called and arrested Dannie Levy, 29, of Mattapan, and Sayira Cooper, 24, of Boston.

During the arrest, police said a child was sitting unsupervised in a chair nearby. He was taken to his grandmother’s at the request of his mother.

Police obtained a search warrant for the rest of the home and said they found three more guns along with 300 rounds of ammunition and a scale in a safe under the bed.

Both Levy and Cooper face charges including gun possession when they are arraigned.
