Bedford’s Jazic ‘thrilled’ about trade

Ante Jazic has been traded to a new Major League Soccer team, but he doesn’t even have to pack a suitcase.

The 32-year-old defender from Bedford confirmed last night he has been traded from the Los Angeles Galaxy to Chivas USA for draft picks. Both teams are based in the Los Angeles, and both teams play their home games at Home Depot Centre.

“I’m basically going to pick up my stuff and move it down two doors to the next locker room,” said Jazic, who doesn’t even need to find a new apartment. “If you’re going to get traded, I think this is the way to do it. I’m thrilled.”

Jazic, a long-time pro who is entering his fourth MLS campaign, was teammates with David Beckham with the Galaxy. He is coming off a tough year following major ankle surgery in December 2007, missing the start of last season and finishing with 1,172 minutes and three assists in 15 games.

“I rushed back,” Jazic said. “I did OK, but I think I can do a lot better. It’s not easy when you miss seven, eight months. In all, I wasn’t totally thrilled with the way I played.”

The former national team member has spent the off-season trying to make a full recovery, and has noticed a big improvement since taking up yoga.

He’s eager to participate in a full training camp, something he missed entirely last year.

His agent is currently in contract negotiations with Chivas USA.

“I had a great time with the Galaxy, it was a great experience, but life goes on,” Jazic said.

“I’m looking forward to joining Chivas. I hear they have a good locker room, I like the way they play soccer, and I’m hoping to help them out.”
