Bottoms up in Brooklyn Bridge Park!

Tonight, at 6 p.m., the Brooklyn Beach Shack in the park served patrons wine and locally brewed beers. It was the first time booze was allowed at the concession stand at the popular park that runs along the Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO waterfront.

The Beach Shack, which is located right next to the Pier 2 pool, now will be serving wine and local beers as well as burgers, hot dogs and other snacks.

State Sen. Daniel Squadron, which represents the DUMBO area, acquired $400,000 in state funds for the pool, the beach and the Beach Shack, and even helped the shack to obtain a new liquor license.

Squadron said that the pool is “making a splash” and has proven to be a great amenity to the park and believes that the Beach Shack also will help in making the park a great place to visit.

“You can watch the Manhattan skyline or dip in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge,” Squadron told Metro. “It’s a great place to have a drink and put your feet in the sand, and it has one of the best views.”

Even though the Beach Shack is located steps away from the Pier 2 public pool, the snack stand will not start serving alcohol until 6 p.m., when the pool is closed. A gate and fence will separate the park from the pool after hours.

“We do not have any concerns with serving alcohol because the pool is closed and blocked off by a gate that is locked,” Nancy Webster, Executive Director of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, told Metro. “The Beach Shack is not affiliated with the pool.”
