If beer is more your style than Manolo Blahniks, Beerfest should be on your radar this weekend.
More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the sixth annual Calgary International Beerfest at the upper Big Four building Friday and Saturday.
The event is intended to give people a taste of a large array of beers from across the globe. “A little knowledge will open you up to a lot of new stuff,” said Beerfest president and CEO Bill Robinson.
Women Only seminars will kick off both days.
“Traditionally, women brewed beer,” said Grizzly Paw Brew Master Michele Lowney. “Here, girls are more willing to try different types and ask questions.”
Patrons will also learn how to judge a beer similar to how wine is tasted. Distinct profiles mean that a beer can be paired with certain foods to bring out its full flavour.
Beyond the drinking, Beerfest is a social event with a great atmosphere, said Robinson.
“I’ve even had people come back on their wedding anniversaries who’ve met here.”
