Retired neurosurgeon and former 2016 Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson has opted against accepting a cabinet position in the Trump administration, his spokesman said on Tuesday.
Carson has been a close adviser to Trump and is a vice chairman of histransition team.
He has been mentioned as a possible secretary of health and human services or education.
Carson’s business manager, Armstrong Williams, saidCarsonhas made clear he has no experience in running a federal bureaucracy.
“Dr. Carson feels he has no government experience, he’s never run a federal agency. The last thing he would want to do was take a position that could cripple the presidency,” he said, according to The Hill. Carsonwill continue to adviseTrump in an unofficial capacity, Williams reportedly said.
