Bernie Fine fired as Syracuse assistant

The Syracuse scandal got a lot uglier yesterday and it didn’t take long for the school to react.

Bernie Fine, who has been accused of molesting at least two former Syracuse ball boys, was fired by the school.

“At the direction of Chancellor [Nancy] Cantor, Bernie Fine’s employment with Syracuse University has been terminated, effective immediately,” Senior Vice President for Public Affairs Kevin Quinn said in a statement.

It came out yesterday that Fine’s wife, Laurie, was recorded on telephone in 2002 admitting to knowing of her husband’s contact with former ball boy Bobby Davis, according to transcripts released by ESPN’s “Outside the Lines.” Davis claims Fine molested him over a pattern of years while he worked for the Orange.

Not only does Laurie admit to knowing of her husband’s “issues,” but also reveals she had an affair with Davis when he was 18.

“I know everything that went on, you know,” Laurie Fine says on the call.

“I know everything that went on with him. Bernie has issues, maybe that he’s not aware of, but he has issues.”
