Sanders beat Clinton by 7 percent with a total of 49 percent of those polled in Massachusetts throwing their vote to the leftist senator, according to the poll. Clinton got away with 42 percent of the votes.

“Despite his lead in Massachusetts, Sanders might not feel great about the poll results,” Boston.com explained. “Of the 12 states that hold primary elections on March 1 — Super Tuesday, as it’s called —just Massachusetts and Vermont favor Sanders.”

The states that Clinton does have a lead in are showing huge leads over Sanders, and according to the poll, itcomes down to race.

“Clinton is benefiting in these states from overwhelming African American support,” PPP explains. “She leads by anywhere from 40-62 points among black voters in the nine of these states that have more black voters than the national average. Her support ranges from 63-74 percent with black voters in those states, while Sanders gets 12-23 percent.”

According to Boston.com 8.3 percent of voting residents in Massachusetts are black, which is below the national average of 13.2 percent.
