Bill Murray does what Bill Murray wants, including crashing a house party and then doing the host’s dishes, serving shots with Wu Tang at SXSW, joining randoms for karaoke and stealing French fries. Add bartending for his son’s new bar and restaurant to the list… or not. Homer Murray, the “Scrooged” actor’s son, is opening an upscale restaurant and bar in Brooklyn called 21 Greenpoint, the former location of the now-closed River Styx. The official opening date is Sept. 21, but an event is scheduled for Friday that has everyone with a sense of humor or a childhood love of “Ghostbusters” in a tizzy. Initially, Eater reported that “Meatballs” Murray, who has become a cult legend, will be serving up the libations on Friday. “People can walk in; just be nice,” Homer Murray told Eater. “What my dad lacks in experience, he makes up for in tequila.”
But, scratch that. Reps for the restaurant told Gothamist that Friday’s shin-dig is a “closed, by-invite only event with Bill Murray, and it is not open to the public. The public will not be able to get in on Friday and Saturday.” Eater updated it’s post saying they were told, “For overall capacity reasons, this is not an open door event, there will be a guest list.”
In perhaps the final twist, sources told Metro that the event, which was always supposed to be private, might not happen… at least with the former SNL cast member. Since the event “went viral,” it’s “going to be a scene.” Looks like most of us are going to have to wait for the magical moment when someone covers our eyes and whispers, “No one will believe you.”
