Bishop charged with importing child porn

A former Roman Catholic bishop is facing child pornography charges after being arrested at the Ottawa Airport last month.

A bishop of the diocese of Antigonish, N.S., Raymond J. Lahey was arrested at the MacDonald-Cartier International Airport while attempting to re-enter Canada Sept. 15.

During an examination, officers with the Canada Border Services Agency found images on a laptop computer. The forensic examination of a computer and media later revealed child pornography.

On Sept. 25, the Ottawa Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit charged Lahey, 69, with possession of child pornography and importation of child pornography.

Lahey announced his resignation as bishop of the Antigonish diocese Saturday.
