In Boston’s brownstone-lined Back Bay new construction is hard to pull off aesthetically, especially in a condo building. But the bright, neo-Georgian styled Bryant Back Bay emerged from a hole in the ground between Clarendon and Dartmouth last July, blending in impressively with its neighbors.
Mom-to-be Christine Schuldt and her husband had been renting nearby and bought their three-bedroom condo there last fall. “I actually started looking at this building before it was built,” says Schuldt. “But thought it was risky to do anything before I could see it.” Once construction neared completion in 2009 and the couple saw the elegant, but not showy exterior, they revisited a purchase in the building in earnest.
“They did such a lovely job on fitting in with the existing architecture,” she says.
The location couldn’t be better either. While the Bryant’s within walking distance of the dining and shopping of both the Back Bay and the South End, this stretch of Columbus feels less commercialized and relatively peaceful.
So far the building is 70 percent occupied. Despite opening last summer, finishing touches are being added, such as the lobby, which was revamped for a cozier feel.
The building also boasts many cool features, such as the direct access elevators, which open into each condo but have sensors that light up so residents can see if they are in use. “It’s a very private building and there’s so much space,” Christine says of huge marble master bathrooms, the size of most apartment bedrooms. The in-unit storage space is incredible, too, with most bedrooms incorporating roomy walk-in closets. “Our baby will even have a walk-in closet,” jokes Schuldt.
