One of my mantras is that in order to be a better parent, you need to be a happy parent. A lot of times we get so caught up with the kids and work that we forget to rekindle the spark in a marriage. I always suggest that parents take a date night at least once a month. If you can't hire a babysitter, ask a friend or neighbor to watch your kids and volunteer to return the favor for them. You need to get out of the apartment and do something just for the both of you. There are so many fun and exciting things to do in and around NYC together. I have picked a few of my favorites from my date night "Lysst."

If you’re looking for a sexy night out with your spouse, check out "Queen of the Night" at the Paramount Hotel. Think Moulin Rouge meets Cirque du Soleil and add in a "deLysscious" meal. It's a lavish night where guests are immersed in a world of theater, cuisine, circus, dance and magic. The show is running through September 26. To purchase tickets visit queenofthenightnyc.com.

Bobby Flay's Meditteraen restaurant GATO is a perfect restaurant to go on a date. Take the time while dining to talk about some things other than the kids. You must order the roasted octopus, kale and wild mushroom paella and the brown butter peach cake with blueberry gelato for dessert.

Soak up these last days of summer with a walk along the beautiful High Line. The views are breath-taking and there's usually some kind of free entertainment happening along the park. Stopping for gelato along the way is always a good decision.

Whatever you decide to do on your night out, make sure to put your iPhone away for those few hours. Make the date about the both of you and reconnecting.
