Board blocks DiMasi pension

Former House speaker Sal DiMasi suffered another set back today when a state board voted to suspend his monthly pension.

The State Board of Retirement voted unanimously today to suspend DiMasi’s monthly check of about $5,000.

DiMasi was sentenced earlier this month to 8 years in jail on corruption charges.

A forfetiure hearing is likely to be held in the coming weeks for DiMasi or his lawyers to be heard on the issue.

Another issue likely to be discussed during that hearing is whether or not DiMasi will have to pay back the more than $27,000 he took out of the pension system than he put in, according to a spokesman for Treasurer Steven Grossman who oversees the retirement board.
