There’s going to be a shortage of skilled workers in Canada, and Minister of State Diane Ablonczy attributes this to an aging workforce in Canada.
“All the workers are now starting to retire with the baby boomers aging, so we’re going to have to replace all those people, and that’s going to be huge,” Ablonczy said in Ottawa yesterday.
In the wake of the impending shortage of skilled workers in Canada, Lowe’s Canada announced yesterday it will support youth across the country to get the skills they need.
The home improvement retailer will contribute $1.25 million to Skills Canada, a national non-for-profit organization that promotes careers in skilled trades.
“The youth who will benefit from these grants are the future of Canada — the future leaders and the skilled workers we so desperately need to grow,” said Lowe’s Canada president Alan Huggins.
Funding will go to Skills Canada and their technical training programs over the next five years.
The contribution supports high school-based projects in Alberta and Ontario, and will expand to other regions as Lowe’s establishes more retail locations across Canada.
