Celebrities from Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Chrissy Teigan have all spoken out about being criticized for their body on social media, but it doesn’t just happen to celebrities.According to a research study conducted by Dove, eight out of 10 women have experienced negativity on social media that has been destructive to their self-esteem. It’s something we see every day.
Last year, Dove and Twitter launched their #SpeakBeautiful campaign, tweeting positive messages to people posting negative comments. For example, if someone tweeted, “Really hating my body today,” they would tweet something like, “Try to say something nice to yourself today. #SpeakBeautiful.”
A year later, the results are in: the campaign has helped decrease negative comments about body image by 36.8 percent. Launching mid-March, Dove and Twitter are taking #SpeakBeautiful a step further by allowing Twitter users to plainly see how positive or negative their tweets are. Their new technology can analyze your last 6 months of tweets and show you how positive or negative your tweets are. Watch the video below to see how it works:
