Sometimes as a meteorologist, when the weather looks quite tranquil from coast to coast, you look for a little nugget, something to ponder.
Not only can we look forward to a supermoon, which is a full moon with the closest approach the moon makes to the earth, but it will be an extra-supermoon as its perceived size and brightness will be the largest in almost a century.
The last time we had an extra-supermoon was in January of 1948, also an election year. On Nov. 2 of that year, President Harry S. Truman, the Democratic incumbent, defeated Thomas E. Dewey, the Republican nominee.
The 1948 election is considered to be the greatest election upset in American history. Virtually every prediction had Dewey easily defeating Truman.
The extra-supermoon will occur on Monday, Nov. 14. Its size will appear to be 14 percent larger and its brightness will increase by 30 percent. If the skies are clear, it will be a brilliant display. If skies are cloudy, you’ll need to wait until September of 2034 for the next one.
Now if you would like to take this into the astrological realm, astrologist Serge Bernard, who has been an astrologer since 1975, gives his bottom line on what it might or might not mean for the upcoming election.
“I am anticipating that unexpected events are likely to happen between now, the inauguration and even after,” he predicts. “New key revelations have a high probability to be brought to light. All along this U.S. election has been unconventional and so its outcome is expected too. We are living confusing times, more critical truths are likely to come out and more surprising events are to be anticipated. I am leaving to your imagination what those future events might be.”
Oh, by the way, the weather will be gorgeous for this Election Day. Sunny skies with temperatures in the 60s will make it a no-excuse Tuesday to get out and vote.
