Last year, while preparing for the first-ever Wild Pink Yonder trail ride fundraiser, trail boss Jane Hurl was severely injured and couldn’t make the trip.
While conditioning her team of Norwegian Fjord horses for the ride, Hurl was thrown from the wagon and broke five bones in her back, three in her right hip and one in her left femur.
“That just postponed the start date a little,” Hurl said. “No way were we going to kill the ride.”
Hurl missed out on the adventure last year but she isn’t planning on letting anything stop her from riding the 325 miles from Waterton Lakes National Park to Strathcona County on the second annual ride.
The ride takes place from Aug. 14 through Sept. 4. Modern-day cowboys will travel in wagons and on horseback, stopping in small towns across the province every day.
Each town will compete for the title of the Pinkest Little Town in the West.
Last year’s ride raised over $55,000 for breast cancer research.
“This year we’ll double it,” Hurl predicted.
