Didn’t get enough Boston Calling in its inaugural year? Well, there’s even more of the music festival coming next year.
Boston Calling organizers announced Tuesday morning that the outdoor music festival will expand from a two-day format to a three-day format.
The third edition of the festival will take place May 23, 24 and 25. A lineup has yet to be announced and organizers said it will be revealed early next year. However, organizers said that the first 2014 show lineup would be similar to the one that played during the May 2013 festival.
For the first two festivals that took place this year, the concert held performances throughout the day and night on Saturdays and Sundays. The upcoming festival in May will include performances on Friday night.
“We’re thrilled to be adding a Friday night to Boston Calling; it’s a great way to kick off the summer,” Brian Appel, of Crash Line Productions and Boston Calling’s co-founder, said in a statement. “Memorial Day weekend in Boston will give people the chance to see some of the most incredible artists in the world, all performing right here in downtown Boston.”
More than 70,000 people attended the first two Boston Calling festivals in May and September, organizers said. The concerts on City Hall Plaza attracted acts like Fun. Passion Pit, Vampire Weekend, Kendrick Lamar, Of Monsters and Men, Major Lazer and The Airborne Toxic Event.
To coincide with the three-day format announcement, Boston Calling organizers said that a limited number of thee-day passes will go on sale on Friday. General admission three-day passes cost $130.
