Boston College: Bates replaces DeFilippo as athletic director

Brad Bates is set to become the new athletic director at Boston College, the school announced Tuesday.

Bates was previously the AD at Miami University (Ohio) and held that position since 2002. Prior to that post, Bates worked in the athletic department at Vanderbilt.

Boston College, which just lost to Army in football last weekend, was said to have been interested in hiring the Black Knights’ athletic director, Boo Corrigan.

Gene DeFilippo, who guided the BC athletic program to the Atlantic Coast Conference and saw considerable success in the mid-2000s, re-signed from his post on Sept. 30.

BC President William Leahy said Tuesday:

“I am delighted that Brad Bates will be our next director of athletics. He is thoughtful, a proven leader, and someone who understands and supports Boston College’s commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics.”
