Boston keeps on Food Truckin’

If sitting down at restaurants isn’t your style, get ready to test your palette, while standing, at the 15 new food trucks coming to the city.

As part of a growing trend started in April, Mayor Thomas Menino announced yesterday more than a dozen new permanent locations will be established.

Several months ago, the city picked three winners for its Food Truck Challenge, which launched the truck trend in the city.

As part of the deal for opening their truck doors, vendors have to have at least one healthy item on their menu that doesn’t include fried food, fake sugar or trans-fat.

Hungry Hub-goers will now be able to find food trucks in Back Bay, Bay Village, South End, Fenway, Kenmore/BU, Dorchester, the South Boston Waterfront, and the Charlestown Navy Yard.

Boston’s Food Truck program, unlike other cities, has designated permanent spots on city streets.

A variety of good eats will be served daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Depending on the vendor, patrons can chow down on breakfast, lunch and dinner items.
