Boston man struck by Red Line train at North Quincy Station

A 44-year-old man was severely injured around midnight Monday when he was struck by an inbound Red Line train while trespassing at North Quincy Station, Transit Police said today.

The man found lying face down on the tracks when police arrived, and had to be extricated from under the train by the Quincy Fire Department. He was taken to Boston Medical Center with “severe upper torso trauma,” and underwent surgery.

Transit Police said the Red Line driver immediately hit the emergency break when he noticed the victim, a Boston resident, under the overhang to the station platform.

It was unclear today why he was on the tracks. Transit police said he was in critical condition, however a spokesman for the T said that his injuries were not life threatening.
