Well, this didn’t take long. We thought Hollywood might wait at least a respectful year before capitalizing on the Boston Marathon bombings but, according to Deadline Hollywood, a big-budget movie about the tragedy is already in the works.

What’s more, the guys who wrote The Fighter (the 2010 movie starring Mark Wahlberg as washed up Lowell-bred boxer “Irish” Mickey Ward) have signed on to adapt a forthcoming book about the bombings into a screenplay. Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy, two of the three Fighter writers will write the non-fiction screenplay, slated to be called — what else? – Boston Strong.

The realization of the Boston Marathon movie is a ways off, as the book — to be penned by true crime author/journalist Casey Sherman and Boston Herald reporter Dave Wedge — is yet unpublished.

The Fighter was a great movie, no question, but we’re really hoping to see a big-screen account of the attack that doesn’t feature characters permanently dressed in wife-beaters and gold chains, who punctuate every other sentence with the word “wicked.”

“That marathon attack was wicked messed up, kehd.”

On a serious note, though, we’re pretty excited to see how this movie eventually turns out.
