Boston police find loaded gun in baby’s bassinet

Police executing a search warrant in Dorchester on Saturday reportedly found a piece of evidence in an unlikely location. It was a loaded semi-automatic handgun, and it was in a baby’s bassinet.

“Officers were stunned and astounded,” when they found the weapon “resting in a child’s bassinet,” according to a police report.

When searching the Norfolk Street residence, police had been targeting 33-year-old Pedro Valdez, the report said. The investigation also yielded plastic bags of heroin and cocaine, as well as $1,000 in cash, according to police.

Valdez was arrested without incident. He faces drug and weapons charges, including possession of a high-capacity feeding device and possession of a gun with an obliterated serial number.

Police arrested and charged another suspect, 27-year-old Lasonia Gathers, also of Dorchester. That suspect faces the same charges as Valdez, the report said.
