Boston Police scrap, recycle recovered guns

The Boston Police Department has an answer to the question of where guns go when they die.

BPD showcased the other end of their weapons recovery program at a steel plant in Everett, where guns recovered in street crimes are crushed, melted down, recycled and repurposed.

According to information from the Boston Police Blog, the Ballistics Unit shipped over 200 guns recovered from the streets to the Schnitzer Steel Plant where they were shaped into manhole and sewer covers.

An officer at the plant said in a statement, “It feels good knowing that the weapons destroyed here today won’t get a second chance to hurt or harm anybody else in the future.”
