Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said Boston Public Schools would be closed Monday as more than a foot of snow is expected to drop on Boston, giving area students their fourth snow day in the past week. The snow emergency was set to take effect at 6 a.m., a statement from City hall read. Cars parked on major roads after 8 a.m. will be towed.
“We are still in recovery mode from the recent blizzard and I want to thank residents for their patience as we prepare for the upcoming winter storm,” Walsh wrote in a statement. “With up to 14 inches of snow expected, please remember to check on your neighbors, especially the elderly, and always put safety first.” Boston Centers for Youth and Families will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. to provide childcare for children aged 7 and older.
Walsh also asked residents to leave their cars at home and take public transportation to work Monday morning.

Walsh said the city had already spent about half it’s annual snow-removal budget of $100 million.
Walsh said the state plans to deploy about 4,000 plows, sanders, and other pieces of snow removal equipment over the next 24 hours.
