Boston University’s ‘Daily Free Press’ editor resigns after offensive publication

The editor-in-chief of Boston University’s student-run newspaper has resigned after an April Fools’ Day issue of the paper featured pages of content about Disney characters being raped or overdosing on drugs.

According to a letter posted on The Daily Free Press website by Annie Ropeik, chairwoman of

the publication’s Board of Directors, Editor-in-Chief Chelsea Diana was asked to step down from her role and accepted after Monday’s issue sparked outrage on campus.

“Considering the events of this semester and the increasingly vocal, constructive climate of conversation about sexual assault and many other important issues on campus, much of the content of Monday’s issue was incredibly harmful, tasteless and out of line,” Ropeik wrote.

Campus news editor Steph Solis, who was selected to be Fall 2012 editor-in-chief, will be stepping in immediately, according to the letter.
