Boston women to hold ‘Slutwalk,’ which is what it sounds like

If you’re offended by provocatively dressed, sexually promiscuous women prancing through the streets, you might want to stay inside on Saturday, May 7.

That’s when Boston’s self-proclaimed “sluts” will participate in Slutwalk, a 2K walk that will begin at Government Center, wind its way through the Common and end with speakers, workshops and other activities.

According to the event’s Facebook page, it is open to all genders, sexual orientations, races and ethnicities. The goal is to stand up against rape culture and “slut-shaming,” and will also “create an environment of grrrl love and a sense of solidarity, “ organizers wrote.

The walk is modeled after the first-ever Slutwalk held last Sunday in Toronto. Participants there took the streets in fishnet stockings and high heels to protest a Toronto police officer’s claims that “women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.”
