Flat Earth Theater’s first show of the season is D.W. Gregory’s “Radium Girls”, recounting the story of factory workers in the early 20th century who painted watch dials with radioactive paint to make them glow in the dark. When they inevitably developed horrible health problems, they demanded compensation; the company, despite obvious evidence, fought them every step of the way. This exhibition examines the bold, colorful exhortations of pop artist Corita Kent, a Catholic nun who came to artistic prominence in the ’60s and continued working until her death. One of her most famous works is the iconic “Rainbow Swash” that still adorns a local natural gas tank along I-93. The show features 60 of her prints alongside pieces from her contemporaries. DANCE

The relentlessly creative indie pop outfit Magic Magic has a quirky, sophisticated sound that refuses to sit still, with non-repetitive structures, male-female vocal tradeoffs, rhythmic fake-outs and delightfully unexpected changes in dynamics and tone. There really is something magical about them, as if they have access to some bottomless well of musical ideas. We’re just glad they’re sharing.
