Just because it’s a holiday weekend doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do around town. And the fact that half the city’s residents will depart for greener pastures for the long weekend means shorter lines for you! Go see some theater, check out some art and see Magic Magic take the stage tonight. THEATER

Flat Earth Theater’s first show of the season is D.W. Gregory’s “Radium Girls”, recounting the story of factory workers in the early 20th century who painted watch dials with radioactive paint to make them glow in the dark. When they inevitably developed horrible health problems, they demanded compensation; the company, despite obvious evidence, fought them every step of the way. The Massachusetts Brewer’s Guild hosts their 6th annual beer festival this weekend, with over 100 different beers to sample from more than 30 different local makers. Anyone in doubt about our state’s status in the craft beer world ought to be set straight. Whether you’ll be able to walk straight is a different question… we suggest drinking wicked smaht, kid. Magic Magic

Great Scott
1222 Comm. Ave., Boston

The relentlessly creative indie pop outfit Magic Magic has a quirky, sophisticated sound that refuses to sit still, with non-repetitive structures, male-female vocal tradeoffs, rhythmic fake-outs and delightfully unexpected changes in dynamics and tone. There really is something magical about them, as if they have access to some bottomless well of musical ideas. We’re just glad they’re sharing.
