The South End’s charcuterie king, Salty Pig, is gearing up for a battle of le meatball against East Cambridge’s restaurant Dante on May 17th. Chefs Josh Turk (Pig) and Dante de Magistris (Dante) will craft their tastiest meatball entry for the next round of Food Fights 3 to benefit Share our Strength’s No Kid Hungry. The battle will go down at rustic Italian newbie, Capo, in South Boston, which is owned by the folks of Lincoln Tavern and Loco Taqueria.
The ballsy battle follows January’s French Fry showdown at Kirkland Tap and Trotter, where Tony Maws (Craigie on Main), Cassie Piuma (Sarma), Andy Husbands (Tremont 647) and Lydia Shire (Scampo) submitted their take on fried favorite. Maws took home the gold for crispy, thick-cut shoestrings covered in cotija cheese and green chile sauce. Plus, Share Our Strength brought home $4,000 to help feed hungry kids — healthy, nutritious meals, not fries.
No word on what Dante or Salty Pig are plotting for the upcoming head-to-head, but we’re interested to see whether honed Italian kitchen smarts or primal meat authority will come out on top.
