McNulty called blocking the road at Tremont Street and Columbus Avenue "precautionary."
Police did not have to detonate the package, as they did when a suspicious piece of luggage was left near a Homeland Security SUV Dec. 4.
In September, police arrested a man wearing a Guy Fawkes maskwho allegedly making bomb threats at Back Bay station, which is also on the Orange Line.
