A babysitter hired through Care.com was allegedly caught stumbling around high and drunk while watching a 3-year-old in the middle of the afternoon, Arlington Police said.

Susan M. Devereaux, 51, of Medford, has been charged with reckless endangerment of a child after police determined that the babysitter was intoxicated and, according to them, and “consumed multiple alcoholic beverages and had taken prescription drugs earlier in the day.”

A neighbor noticed Devereaux, who had been hired to watch the toddler that spring through Care.com, at about 1:30 p.m. stumbling around Egerton Road with her 3-year-old charge in tow, police said. A responding officer “noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from her,” according authorities, and learned that she was trying to enter the wrong house.

Police contacted the boy’s mother, who lives on the street, who told police that she had used Devereaux several times both through the childcare website and later by reaching out and paying her directly.
