Bizarre weekend at Logan involves Curt Schilling, a fake grenade, a naked man

Saturday was anything but ordinary for security workers at Logan International Airport.

The action-packed day kicked off around 7 a.m. with a visit from the bomb squad after former Red Sox pitcher and ESPN analyst Curt Schilling’s 12-year-old don accidentally brought a fake plastic grenade through a security checkpoint.

Schilling wrote on his Facebook, ““Want a good one to start your day? We are at Logan getting ready to fly. Heading through security when one of my sons looks at me in panic….“DAD!”…..OMG I THINK I LEFT MY FAKE GRENADE IN MY BAG!!!

Me…..ummm, what??? 3 seconds later the belt stops, every tsa person is on their walkie talkies. Then, they shoo everyone in line behind us away…15 minutes later the bomb squad arrives….”

TSA personnel took the Schilling family into a private room so they could explain the goof, according to Massport, and there were no delays.

But the day soon took a more serious turn.

Two men are due East Boston District Court Monday for two separate incidents at the airport, and though both episodes were violent, only one involved a naked man.

Cameron Shenk, 26, of Boston is facing a slew of charges, including attempted murder, mayhem, assault and battery on a person over 60, for allegedly stripping naked inside a women’s restroom on the upper level of Terminal C around noon.

According to police, Shenk removed his clothing and climbed into the drop ceiling before plummeting to the floor and sustaining cuts to his head and body. Shenk then fled from the ladies restroom naked and bleeding, police said, and proceeded to attack an 84-year-old man. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.

During his arrest, Shenk allegedly injured a state trooper.

Thirty minutes before the bizarre incident, around 11:23 a.m., police arrested Anton Hilton, 52, of Roxbury at the lower level of Terminal E. Troopers responded to a report of a disturbance involving a woman screaming from inside a BMW with a broken windshield.

Hilton was allegedly driving the car before he assaulted a 21-year-old woman in the passenger seat. He now faces charges of assault and battery as well as kidnapping. The victim refused medical treatment, police said.

Both Hilton and Shenk will be held pending release on bail or their arraignment.
