Decaying body found in East Boston marsh identified as missing 16-year-old

Authorities have identified the decayingbody found in Belle Isle Marsh as that of a 16-year-old East Boston boy.

Family members late Monday identified the teen, whom relatives reported missing on Nov. 13. Because the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not yet ruled on the cause or manner of his death, authorities are not releasing his name, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said in a statement.

This is the second missing Boston-area teenager to be found dead in as manyweeks.

A 16-year-old Lawrence boy was found decapitated and with his forearms chopped offnear the Merrimack River on Dec. 1. The boy,Lee Manuel Viloria-Paulino, was reported missing by family members on Nov. 18 when he didn’t come home.

Passersby spotted the East Boston teen’s body in the vicinity of the marsh’s Bennington Street entrance on the evening of Dec. 9 and notified police.

While visitors to the reservation are advised to remain alert and aware of their surroundings, authorities said the young man’s death does not appear to be connected with random violence or an ongoing threat to public safety.
