Boston police sergeant who allegedly sent obscene images to minor may plead guilty, lose job

Boston police Sgt. Edwin Guzman’s job is on the line after he was charged with sending explicit messages on Facebook to a minor, WCVB reports.

Guzman allegedly sent explicit messages that escalated to sending a picture of his penis to the minor, who considered him a trusted adult and family friend in 2014.

“It started off we regularly chat and it’s mostly about school and how life is,” the teenager, who was 16 at the time the messages were sent, explained to WCVB. “If I gave him like pleasure and let him do things to me, he’d be willing to buy me things…. He took a picture of his penis and he sent it to me.”

Guzman was charged with annoying a member of the opposite sex and for sending obscene material to a minor, however, two years later, the obscene material charge is being dropped.

Why? Because officials have been unable to retrieve the naked photo from the alleged victim’s messages.

However, Guzman is reportedly set to plead guilty to the lesser charges to avoid jail time.

“I’d rather have him plead guilty on his own and say he’s guilty of one thing,” the mother of the alleged victim told WCVB, though she told the station she felt Guzman “came out winning.”

Guzman is due in court Friday morning.

Boston police officials are waiting for the criminal trial to resolve before looking into whether Guzman will be allowed to keep his job.
