A suspect is in custody after two people were injured in Cambridge in a Wednesday morning hit-and-run and pistol-whipping.


Authorities initially responded to a Pearl Street hit-and-run around 8:12 a.m., Cambridge police stated. A victim had been dragged by a Dodge Charger following an altercation with the driver in Central Square.

Police said that a second person, found with the dragging victim, had been pistol-whipped.Authorities recovered a firearm that witnesses said was discarded from the suspect's vehicle.


The two victims, both with nonlife-threatening injuries, were taken to an area hospital,CBS Boston added. Part of Pearl Street was also taped off.


Authorities determined that the driver and the hit-and-run victim knew each other, Cambridge police stated.

Police identified the suspect taken into custody as Joekeem Nelson, 20, from Cambridge. He now faces multiple charges including armed assault with intent to murder, firearm possession, and assault and battery.
