The U.S. Coast Guard and the fire department rescued three people Friday morning after their boat ran aground at the mouth of the Merrimack River in Newburyport.
At about 7:30 a.m., Coast Guard watchstanders received the call that a 32-foot pleasure craft ran aground. Two of the three people on board sustained lacerations and possible fractures, authorities said.
The Coast Guard sent out a 29-foot rescue boat, took all three passengers off the grounded boat and brought them back to the station.
The passengers were brought to a local hospital for further care and the boat was later towed.
