Two people died from house fires in Massachusetts over a 12-hour span, according to state fire authorities.

Jennifer Mieth, a spokeswoman for the State Fire Marshal’s Office, confirmed to Metro that a man died in a house fire in Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard sometime before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Another fire in Taunton, reported shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday, also the claimed the life of a man.

The victims names have not yet been released. The causes of both fires are currently under investigation.

Mieth said 16 people have died from fires in the state this year.
